Honoring Trans+ History Week
This Week 05/04 - 05/10 and Every Week
Hey Reset Fam,
This week is Trans+ History Week โ and we are showing up fully for our trans, nonbinary, intersex, and gender-diverse family. ๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ
To every trans person, every nonbinary person, every intersex person, every gender-diverse person reading this โwe see you. We honor you. We celebrate you.
Trans+ history is not a footnote. It is a rich and powerful history that spans every culture, every continent, every era.
Trailblazers You Should Know:
Marsha P. Johnson โ A Black trans woman who stood on the front lines of the Stonewall Riots and co-founded STAR (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries). Possibly the most important trans activist in history. She gave everything for her community.
Christine Jorgensen โ The first person to become widely known in the United States for having gender-affirming surgery in the 1950s. She returned home a celebrity and used every platform she had to advocate for transgender people with grace and dignity.
Elliot Page โ Oscar nominated actor who came out as trans and nonbinary in 2020 and has never looked back. He uses his platform boldly and unapologetically to fight discriminatory policies targeting the trans community.
Frances Thompson (1840) โ Born into slavery, Frances became the first transgender person to testify before the US Congress after the Civil War. A Black trans woman at the intersection of every form of oppression โ and she still used her voice. A true pioneer.
We also want to spotlight the incredible work of QueerAF โ the UKโs only nonprofit and regulated LGBTQIA+ publisher and the organization behind Trans+ History Week. Trans+ History Week is dedicated to celebrating the rich history of transgender, non-binary, gender-diverse, and intersex individuals through stories, events, and lesson books for the whole world to use.
Information is a tool for liberation. QueerAF has invested in over 60 Trans+ creatives โ paid, mentored, and amplified stories the world needs to hear. They are doing the work and they deserve our support.
