Honoring International Non-Binary People's Day- July 14th.
Gender Is A Spectrum. Not A Box.
“You are just you. You are a mixture of all different things. You are your own special creation.”
— Sam Smith
Hey Reset Fam,
This week I want to honor a community that is very close to my heart.
Because I am part of it.
Tuesday July 14th is International Non-Binary People’s Day. And this week - and every week - we celebrate, honor, and shed light on every person who exists beautifully outside of society’s gender boxes.
To every nonbinary, genderqueer, genderfluid, agender, and gender nonconforming person reading this - this one is for you.🤍
A little history:
International Non-Binary People’s Day was first celebrated on July 14th, 2012, started by Canadian writer and non-binary activist Katje van Loon. The date was chosen intentionally — it falls precisely midway between International Women’s Day (March 8th) and International Men’s Day (November 19th). A deliberate reminder that there is a vast, beautiful spectrum of gender identity that exists between and beyond those two days.
And speaking of beautiful — let’s talk about the non-binary flag.
Created by Kyle Rowan in 2014, each color carries deep meaning:

💛 Yellow — for people whose gender exists entirely outside of the binary
🤍 White — for people of all genders or many genders
💜 Purple — for people whose gender is a mix of female and male
🖤 Black — for people who identify as having no gender at all
To our nonbinary community:
You are exactly who you say you are. And that is enough. That has always been enough.
We know that existing outside of society’s boxes comes with real challenges. The misgendering. The erasure. The exhausting work of explaining yourself to people who refuse to try. The conflict that comes from living in a world that wasn’t designed with you in mind.
And yet — here you are. Showing up. Being yourself. That takes courage most people will never fully understand.
You are seen. You are celebrated. You are loved. Not just on July 14th. Every single day.
For our allies — how to show up:
Use correct pronouns — and introduce your own to normalize the practice
Apologize quickly and do better if you misgender someone
Don’t ask invasive questions about someone’s body or identity
Speak up when you hear anti-nonbinary comments or jokes
Amplify nonbinary voices — their art, their writing, their stories
Support nonbinary led organizations and creators
